how do i save as a project??
ie when i boot up photoshop i get exactly the same screen as when i left, all the windows open and things just how i left them??
like a project in FCP for example.
its probably very easy.....

You can't really save PS with the actual contents in place, however, you can save your layout under:
WINDOW>WORKSPACE>SAVE WORKSPACE

Then if you open your file and load your workspace, it should look just like you left it...

oh!!
thats a shame!! i knew about the workspace thing but its a shame to have to reopen all the windows containing the elements of my current project...
