Layer not directly editable
by Anthony Uccello on Jun 5, 2008 at 6:34:19 pm

Hi,

I have a layer I am trying to add a gradient to but it keeps telling me the layer is not directly editable.

Basically, I have a smaller rectangular box within a bigger one. I can apply the gradient to the big box, but it won't let me apply it to the small one ("the content of this layer is not directly editable"). How can I work around this and edit the layer?

Thanks!

Anthony

sounds like you have a shape layer. Try rasterizing the layer. If you want the shape to remain a vector mask create a new layer and drag (or option drag to copy) the vector mask to it and apply the gradient you want to the new layer.
