Kazumi HatoriCannot Standard Preview - Occasionally via different projects

Hi,

I've been used to use standard preview (Spacebar / play button) all the time,
via I find sometimes while I press spacebar(or play button), the timeline just go forward 1 frame only.

It's ok with the RAM preview.

And the point is, on some projects, I got the normal SPACEBAR,
via some projects, after working for a while, don't.

I wonder if I disable that in any way that I don't know?

Here's the short version: never use the space bar. Not ever. I won't go into the reasons why it's happening to you because there are too many of them and too little time to write them down.

I'm not kidding -- space bar preview is the WORST way to preview in AE. Why? Because AE isn't designed for realtime playback. It has never worked like an editing application because it was never built to edit. It was designed to do motion graphics and compositing, things that editing applications aren't designed to do.

Thus, people have gotten used to RAM Previewing. I recommend that you look at the AE Help section called Views and Previews to learn the many, many ways to preview in AE... and forget the space bar option.

There's no use complaining that you can't do it, you just have to get used to it. The rest of the world has gotten used to it, and now it's your turn.

Ok, I learnt the difference.
But sometimes I really need a quick way to just know what's stuffs going on in 4-5 frames, frequently.

anyone?

Easy: find the beginning of the section you want to preview. Hit the b (for Begin) key. Find the end of the section you want to preview. Hit the n (for eNd) key. You've now defined the Work Area. Hit zero on the numeric keypad. AE will RAM Preview the Work Area.

If you set a Work Area duration of several minutes, this won't work: you'll run out of RAM. But for short durations, it's just fine.

I strongly recommend you look over the various previewing options: there are a lot of different things you can do to speed up your work.

I B and N, set area, press 0, the green bar shows it render the area,
and the area wouldn't play, why is that?

Zero on the NUMERIC keypad, and not the main keyboard?

Yup,
on Num Pad,
and it really does render (see the bar turn green in the area)

I wonder if that's because of anything about image cache??

It wouldn't hurt to purge all the caches, that's for sure. That way, you start with a clean slate. You have to do that sometimes.
