Dave, I think she's refering the block 3d look of the text.
You can make that by creating a text layer, change it to a 3d layer and add the expression "position+[(index+1),(index+1),(index-1)*1] " to the position. Now just duplicate the layer 15 to 20 times. Then just take your duplicates and change the color to black.
I made a quick project to demonstrate. I precomped the text, so if you need to change it, you only have to change the precomped text, rather than every layer. Also added a controller to change the color of the shadows.
