changing the color of objects or text

Hello everybody!

how can i achive changing colors of some shapes or text in time, ie. how to change colors with a certain color and order of that colors to appear in certain time but without other colors and tones (of the "color wheel")in between ?
i did try with layer - color overlay and with effects - hue saturation but i didn`t get result that i wanted


i hope this question is not to much confusing as i`am as confused beginner in AE :)

Or, if you want it to fade, you can have multiple copies with different colors and then animate the opacity of the top one.

Alternately, you could set up a Tint effect with your two different colors and make your object fade from black to white and the Tint will be making it go from one color to another.
