H264 does not appear as an export format
by Robert Crumb on Nov 2, 2009 at 3:51:43 pm

After Effects CS4 runs on 2 Windows XP SP3 based PCs.

Both PCs are identically fully patched & have the latest version of QuickTime installed.

On one PC, H264 appears as an export format in the Render Queue -> Output Module -> Format drop down list. Great!

In the output module drop down list on the other PC, it has everything *except* H264 & H264 Blu-Ray.

Does anyone know how to fix this? What do I need to do?

Thanks.

I know this doesn't solve your problem, and frankly, I don't know enough about PCs to give an answer based on such skimpy information, but I do know that it isn't as horrible a deal as you think it is.

AE does NOT make great-looking H.264 files. It can't, because AE can't do multipass encoding, which is what's necessary for really good looking H.264 files. you'd be better off doing the encoding to H.264 in a different application, like Adobe Media Encoder (or whatever they call it).

Ooooohhhh, I can't resist! Say hello to Mr. Natural for me, Mr. Crumb!
