by Davey Smith on Aug 26, 2008 at 10:03:04 pm

Im shooting a sort of hidden camera video viral on digital video, but I need to find out the effect used in either after effects or final cut pro that can make it look as though its been shot on a small hidden camera...

Piece of cake.

• Get a cheap single-chip DV camera
• Shoot with available light
• Put the camera in places where you'd put a hidden camera

Done.

You're going to need to blur the footage, add a vignette and maybe use Distort > Optics Compensation to get close to the look you want. It wouldn't hurt to add some extra noise to the footage as well.

[Davey Smith] "Thing is its being shot on hd...."

Well, how tough can it be to come up with a cheapo Sony DV Handicam as well? You'll have the cruddy-looking standard-definition video you seek built right in.

Use two cameras: make one the best HD camera you can get, the other the worst DV camera you can get. This is a great example of the best effect being a practical effect.
