increase and lower the volume in a mov. ??
by Esther Casas on May 10, 2008 at 9:03:27 pm

Hi everyone!

I have a quick question for you.I am trying to mix some quicktime movies and I like to lower the volume at the end of the layer (the mov) and increase it at the beginning of each layer (mov),so teh transition between the movies will also happen with a smooth sound transition.
I tried to set up a keyframe at the beggining and end of each layer, the max at 0.0 dB and the minimum I went to -0.5dB, but the sound stays the same, not changing at all when i render teh whole movie.

How can I increase and lower my volumes in different segments of a movie????

Thank you in advance!!
Esther.

-0.5db is very close to 0, so you're not likely to hear much difference. Turn it way down to -50 and you'll be getting closer.

However, I don't think I would be the only user of this forum to suggest you don't work with sound in AE. Not only is it cumbersome and difficult to do, AE doesn't deal with sound very well, expecially compressed sound.

I'll echo Simon's post -- doing your audio work in AE isn't a great idea. There are many, Many, MANY applications that will do a better job.

In fact, just about the ONLY reason I use audio in AE is for timing purposes. I can't even remember the last time I rendered out audio and video together. Once you get used to the way AE works, you know your stuff will be frame accurate, and you'll know you can blow off audio.

About the only reason I use AE for audio work is because I like the job it does with reverb.
