Copying Masks
by Sara Jean on Apr 2, 2008 at 1:41:09 am

Hi,

I've animated a subtraction mask for a vector text layer that has been scaled down to 58%. I want to use the same mask to subtract the black solid layer I've placed underneath it which is still at 100%. When I copy and paste the mask from the text to the black layer it makes the mask much larger because the layer is larger and I can't get it to show both masks at the same time to match them up. any ideas?

Thanks!

Sara

In order to get a copied mask to work properly, it has to be pasted onto a layer that has the same horizontal & vertical dimensions and the same pixel aspect ratio. Then you'd have to match the new layer's position & scale.

But that's the hard way to do it.

In your case, it should be a lot easier: just duplicate the existing mask layer and use it again.

Thanks Dave,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by duplicate the layer and use it again though? The masked layer is an illustrator text layer and the other (the one I'm trying to copy and paste the mask to) is a black solid layer.

Oh. Well, then, you're going to have to make a solid that's the same size as your illustrator layer, and copy the mask to that.
