Re: "Codec not found" by Kevin Camp on Dec 20, 2007 at 3:57:42 pm
the codec is the how the file was encoded... like a tiff is different than a targa file. with video you often capture with a third party hardware (like decklink or kona card) and they typically ship with their own codecs that work with hardware, but can usually be downloaded from the manufacturer for use on other systems.
do you know what format the image sequence is (tiff, jpeg, png, etc...) and do you know where the sequence came from (software and hardware)?

sorry, when you said sequence and codec, i assumes image sequence. in ae sequences (like with timelines and all) are called comps (compositions).
but this is weird... i just want to make sure this is what you are doing...
1. you open ae (cs3, right?)
2. by default you have a new (empty) project open
3. you either hit the new comp icon button, or are choosing composition>new composition and are then getting an error.
i can't think of any reason ae would be giving you and error, particularly a codec error, when you are just creating a new comp in a new project...

Hi Kevin.
The problem we're having is that I posted this question in the Final Cut Pro section, but they moved it to the AE section. My problem is with opening a sequence (hence why i'm not calling it a Comp) in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4, not AE. :)
Thanks for your help Kevin. I am going to re-post in the final cut pro board.
