Having trouble with masks!
by goffrey on Oct 26, 2007 at 11:21:27 am

Hi there

I'm fairly new to After Effects and am trying to accomplish something but have had no end of trouble with it so wondered if someone could help...

Basically what I'm wanting to do, is create a masked off area around someones eyes which remains in focus whilst the rest of the shot is out of focus. So far, so simple - for me anyway.

What I need to do next, is move the mask up as the person lifts their head in the shot and I can't seem to get this right for some reason. I can re-position the mask but all I get is a still image of his eyes from the start position move up to the end position.

Can anyone help?!

Thanks

Geoff

Two things:

1) Are animating this mask by using Mask Shape keyframes? If not, you're just moving the mask around in the comp. Know how to set keyframes? Search the word keyframe in AE Help.

2) You need to understand that you can't play anything in AE. This application has to render everything. So to see your animation, you need to learn how to do a RAM Preview. You do it by hitting the zero on the numeric keypad. You do NOT hit the space bar.

And you really should look up the topic or RAM Previews in AE Help, too. Go ahead. Do it.
