Layer b/w image masks
by Cathowl on Oct 12, 2007 at 8:19:06 am

I want to use bitmap b/w footages as masks where only the black shows another footage (animated texture) and use five of them on top of each other so that they all show at the same time (non is masking out the others). Is there any way to do that in one layer stack or do I have to create independant comps that I gather in a final composition? Thank you

you could duplicate your footage that is being masked 5 times, then distribute the 5 bitmaps that will be used as masks, one on top of each duplicate footage. then each duplicate footage to use the bitmap above it as a track matte 'luma matte inverted'. i think that should do what you are asking.

so you timeline structure would look a bit like this:

bitmap1
footage -- luma inverted matte 'bitmap1'
bitmap2
footage -- luma inverted matte 'bitmap2'
bitmap3
footage -- luma inverted matte 'bitmap3'
bitmap4
footage -- luma inverted matte 'bitmap4'
bitmap5
footage -- luma inverted matte 'bitmap5'
