layer order getting under my skin
by muiisal on Jul 10, 2007 at 9:50:12 am

i'm having issues with a bunch of layers in z space.

AE will not register their true position in z space in so much as;

layer A is at the top of the timeline.

layer B is under layer A on the timeline.

BUT layer B is further back in z space than layer A.

Why does AE still show layer A being infront of layer B?? I realise that on my actual timeline layer A is above layer B - but surely me moving my layers in z space is the key factor here - NOT the layer order.

Am i alone in my madness here?

It sounds like you may also have a layer A 1/2, so to speak. It lies between layers A and B in the timeline, it's not 3D but 2D, and when that situation occurs, you won't get what you want.

The solution: move that rogue layer to the top, and all will be well.

[muiisal] "BUT layer B is further back in z space than layer A."

If layer B is farther back in Z space then layer A should appear on top of it. This is normal. However, since it sounds like you're upset about something I assume you got your layer A's and B's crossed in this statement? =)

Are you using any track mattes in your project? Any adjustment layers? Viewing from the 'Active Camera'?

If you include a screen grab of AE, focusing on the timeline with the shy switch off and the transform properties twirled down for these two layers then we should be able to get to the bottom of this!
