Hi all,
I'm trying to build a background for a DVD. I'm trying to create a background with the illusion of depth and atmosphere. However, my backgrounds look very basic and very 2d (of course). I would love to obtain the feel of videocopilot.net's backgrounds located at
These are some of the most amazing ones I've seen, and I would like to build a dvd menu with that feeling of depth. In any event, is there a tutorial out there at creative cow that can help me achieve that feeling of atmosphere and depth? Which effects do you think would be most useful? Any tips, suggestions, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

looking over the link, the key to most of their stuff is a good sense of design and particles. with the right plugins you can achieve this kind of looking stuff relatively easily, espeically combined with an eye for design. try checking out trapcode plugins, especially particular and 3d stroke. they're used commonly because they're inexpensive, fast to create from scratch, and look good.... there's a lot to be gained, though, from creating moving mattes, in a 3d space, moving a camera around, with a few particles, some deep rich colours and depth of focus play... apologies if that sounds vague, but if you're looking for a more specific answer, try picking something you'd like to immitate, and posing the question of how is it done. this can be a great way to get started.
