How do I Log & Capture in FCP 7 using a Sony Hdr Fx 1000

i have a sony hdr fx 1000 video camera - i want to hook it up to my macbook pro using final cut pro 7 so i can log and capture from the video camera - i wasn't sure if i had my settings right in the camera so i reset them to the original settings - i tried using the easy set up in final cut pro 7 but - i think those settings are either not right because when I try to log and capture it says that there is no communication - apparently between the camera and the mac - so thats how i know the settings are not right in my final cut - does anyone out here have this camera that could just tell me the settings or maybe i need to set something in my camera - i just recently purchased the camera online but it didnt come with an instruction manual...im using a fire wire 400 cable ... i have a mac book pro 2.16 mgh with snow leopard 10.6.8 and im using fcp 7

i changed all that like you suggested - is there a setting or option that i need to change on my camera - to allow the video to go to final cut pro - i dont have the manual but i did look at it online - and it wasnt too helpful when it comes to logging and capturing in final cut pro

yes - if you are familiar with sony cameras there are only to modes play vcr - i have it set to play .... if thats what you mean.

i will return my fire wire cable - that i bought from radio shack - its a gigi ware 400 firewire cable ... should i exchange it for the same cable or should i get the firewire 800 cable

being that my friend paid with a credit card and wasnt with me at the time of exchange - they would only allow me to do an even exchange - other then that I just opened it and it has to be something that is not setup right in FCP 7 .
