My client gave us a Mini DV tape claiming they recorded at 24p (pretty much faking HD) everything I do to see it I get nothing. On the monitor, every capture setting in FCP 7.0.3 I get nothing. Some bars with some green pixels at the top. I've even tried doing 29.97 settings and 59.94 settings to get this captured but FCP won't see it. I can't even get a monitor to see it straight from the deck (DVCAM Sony DSR-20) Help please!

Choose the DV/NTSC EASY SETUP in FCP. the frame rate should be 29.97. If this is a 24p tape with advanced pulldown (only Panasonic cameras recorded that), then you can choose the PULLDOWN REMOVAL option.
If you can't see it...then it might not be DV. It might be DV50...also called DVCPRO 50. That is a panasonic format. And regular DV decks won't play it. Or it might be HDV...in which case you need an HDV deck to play it. Unless it is a JVC HDV format...then you need a JVC camera or deck to play it.
Not fun when companies do so many friggin formats.
