edit jpeg images SD w minimum of rendering?

I'm editing a SD seq in FCP 6 made up of photos (imported jpegs) which I'd like to scale and move with a minimum of rendering. Since DV quality is note so hot I'd like to use a different (better) codec setting for a seq that is 720x486, any suggestions? (I started with ProRes SD but resizing req rendering.)
