Mac Pro 2.66 Quad
ATI 4870
8GB ram
FCP 7.0
Kona LHi w/break out (latest driver)
going analog to Sony PVM 20

Searched for answers, considered basic to me so I'm posting in basics
I've been round and round with this for two weeks. Not a client session so I can live with it but I would like to get it solved.
Footage shot Canon XL2 24P 16x9. Each clip was Cinecompressed in cinema tools. as it was set for standard 2:3 not advanced 2332.

If the timeline is 23.98 it will only show a freeze frame of wherever I am parked, it will not playback the footage realtime as it does in the canvas. . I have tried every setting in the Kona and FCP, I usually up res to HD all my SD stuff but SD does not work either.
My sequence is ProRes422-HQ but it used to be NTSC-DV, tried many and pasted clips in to no avail.
If I place the footage in a 29.97 timeline, then it plays fine.???

All my clips are 23.98.

I do not have this problem with XDCAM-EX footage for another project at 23.98
Here the sequence settings:

Here are the clip properties

Now it will playback in this sequence but that brings up a whole set of other issues
the least of which is the aspct/anamorphic thing and of course the fps.
