Mixing Lower Even and Upper Odd footage
by Kelly Richardson on Jun 26, 2009 at 4:29:54 pm

Hello,

I'm working on a project which was shot on two cameras - one high definition pal 1080i captured as Apple Intermediate codec and one standard definition DV pal. I'm attempting to combine the footage into a DV PAL sequence but of course, DV PAL is lower field dominance and AIC 1080i50 is upper odd. As a result, I'm getting incredibly dodgy looking footage from the HD stuff - all field dominance related.

Could someone offer some advice on what to do here?

Thanks very much in advance

Use Compressor to convert your HD to SD PAL as that's your edit format (and presumed delivery format). Be sure to turn on Frame Controls in the Inspector and choose Best for the quality settings.

Shift clips 1 pixel... or better yet... deinterlace all of your footage via Compressor

Thank you for your response. Wouldn't deinterlacing result in lost quality?
