Slow rendering issues
by Marc Weakley on Jun 18, 2008 at 9:32:48 am

Hi folks. I'm new to both Apple Mac and Final Cut. I have an 8-core 2.8Ghz system with 10GB (800 MHz) RAM and a NVIDEA GeForce 8800GT 512MB video card.

I am trying to render a 3 minute HDV movie and it is averaging about 45 minutes for the task - is that excessive?

I know there are plenty of variables - like working off an external WD drive (Firewire 800), but I was lead to believe this was a very fast system.

Am I making a fundamental mistake here somewhere or do these times sound right?

I can't even watch the timeline at all without jerking around - that's why I need to render it first. But it's breaking my heart.

Cheers, Marc.

Did you use a lot of filters?

What are your render settings? Do you get a box that says its conforming?
