DVCPRO HD Archive Question
by Jon Salimes on Apr 12, 2009 at 2:05:54 am

I have a bunch of projects shot in 720/24pn mode with the DVCPRO HD codec. The raw footage has to be deleted but I want to render out the highest quality versions possible for future use. This stuff will probably end up on blu-ray at some point but I don't have the time to find the best compressor for that sort of thing at the moment.

So until I figure out compression details, am I best off just rendering the projects back out in DVCPRO HD considering that's the source codec? Or will even doing that result in some kind of quality loss?

Right off the timeline in FCP simply Export Quicktime Movie and check the Make Self-Contained box. That will do it.

Why not output it to DVCProHD tape, which would also be a clean archive.

I've considered tape as a secondary backup. Right now I just gotta get all this raw footage off my hard drives. Thanks for answering the question!
