HD Compression Advice
by T.J. Ingrassia on Nov 26, 2007 at 3:37:04 am

I'm compressing HD video from Final Cut, using the Apple ProRes 422 codec. The video was shot natively at 720 60p, but I'm reducing the sequences down to 30 fps in Final Cut.

My goal is to save these so they can be download from the web. I was thinking of using the H.264 compression setting at 800 kpbs, 620x370. Is that the best use of Compressor, or might there be setting that I should do differently?

Well 620x370 is not 16:9 nor are the axis equally divisable by 8.

Try either 640x360 or 512x288, both of these are spot on 16:9 and equally divisible by 8.

H.264 is a good choice, the data rate will depend on the complexity of the content.
