My Text Vanishes!

When I copy and paste the text "life" into a layer, I can only past the word a limited number of times.
When the layer is about a third full all of the previously pasted text vanishes.
Any ideas?

Go over the Character settings on the text layer with a fine-toothed comb. It's easy to have weird values in superscript, line spacing, intercharacter spacing etc. that can really screw up what you see.
