Problem with transparent images

Hi Folks,

I have a problem that's literally driving me crazy. Quite simple for you I guess so let me describe it:

I took this image from the web: http://www.scantips.com/g1/xparent.gif
100% transparent on any program, browser... simply anywhere. So I drag this image into a new composition, nothing set up at all, and insert it in the middle of the composition. But as I would expect it, it isn't transparent at all, apparently it decided to have a white background.

I googled and tried to find help on the topic, and I read that I should interpret the image. Fine, I even found the right settings panel, but it's grey and you can't set up anything. It says ALPHA and is GREY as well as Framerate.

So please help me, I'm so desperate. And using "keying" is not a solution for me, I just want to have simple gif/tiff transparent images for my composition.

Just open the Gif in Photoshop, convert to RGB 8bpc and save as a different fileformat that supports alpha channels like PSD or tiff.

GIF is an 8bit format, so it has no real alpha channel, just one color reserved as transparant.
After Effects does not seem to interpret this.

And I can't blame 'em.
GIF needs to die IMO.
