In referring to this video:






I was wondering if I can do something like the wall effect shown in the video [the 3D bump textures] in after effects. Or do I have to shoot it live? I'm thinking of doing something along the lines of what's shown, but I don't really have the time to film much live shots.

Seeing as the wall never shows the texture in 3d because we never see it at any sort of angle, yes; you could create this in AE.
It would be even easier to do it in Photoshop.
And, in all honesty, why not just use a stock picture? There are tons of textures available from stock photo sites.
