No sound in AE CS3
by Jesse Denes on Jul 2, 2009 at 6:09:11 pm

I've just reinstalled after effects after a system wipe, and now I've got no audio in my ram preview and my audio preview. It exports audio, and when I ctrl drag in the time line I get audio fine. Mute isn't clicked and my audio preview isn't st to 0. What am I missing here? I've looked all over the web and can't seem to find an answer. Please help me, because I'm at my wits end (I've been having computer issues for the last month) and I'm about to lose it. Thanks.

Have you looked at the Output Module setting for RAM Preview to see if the audio is turned on in it?

Dave,
I feel like I've checked just about everywhere, but I'm not quite which setting (or where it is located) you're talking about. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Dave,
The RAM Preview is set to Ram Preview. Is this right?

EDIT the setting. See if sound is turned on. If not, turn it on. If it IS on, it's something else, and you'll need to list all the different things you've checked so others can double-check what you've done.

Dave,
I checked the time controls, the prefrences, the computer volume, and now the output module (audio was on). What's weird is that AE sees the audio. There are waveforms, its shows up in the audio panel, it outputs audio, and I can even hear it when I ctrl+scrub, I just cant get it to audio preview, or RAM preview w/ audio.

This is a VERY common thing in AE CS3 and 4...
Simple: Just as Dave said above, here are the steps:

1. Edit > Templates > Output Module
2. Inside the "Settings" area, click "Edit" (The second button)
3. Make sure the "AUDIO OUTPUT" button at the bottom is CHECKED :D
4. Choose the desire options for your project.

Note: Delete the previous item(s) you have in your Render Queue and add a new one AFTER you change the settings. The previous one keeps the former settings which is "Output Audio" is OFF.

I wish they made it simpler... :D
Cheers!
