Scribble effect managing 500 masks

Hello Everybody. First, thanks for manage and share all this information. This site is a valuable reference for every designer. This is my first post here.
My problem:
I'm trying to add some texture and pencil look to an animate hand-draw illustration. I guessed that scribble effect does it.
Sadly I found that the effect really consumes lots of resources when try to manage 500 masks import with the copy-paste method from Illustrator (One single drawing) . I am working on a Mac pro Intel 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core, 12 GB RAM, but still I can barely work... CS4 crashed almost all time and if doesn't I just way too slow.
I tried, use the plain drawing with autotrace (instead importing vectors from Illustrator) but still the number of masks is around 400.
I asume that scribble is a very limited effect that really can't handle complex illustration imported as vectors from Illustrator. By complex I mean a story-board frame. It this correct? Or am I missing something?
I am giving up with the scribble effect, triying to achieve something similar with diferent filters. No success so far. Any clue?

if your computer is slowing down from the overload of masks, try separating them perhaps 100 to a composition. so for instance it might look like this..

Thanks Immanuel for your tip. That way should work.
Although I think that the scribble effect needs some redesign. I compared stroke effect and 3d stroke effect (without animating in 3d, used to draw the lines) and the 3d one is far faster than the other. Better programming I guess.
Just a though, Is there any way to combine all the "vectors-layers-mask" in Illustrator to one (even if they are not overlapping, so I can only import just one in AE? I used the pathfinder and shape options in Illustrator but still I got 400 "vectors-masks". I read in an old post here that is not possible, maybe with the new version is possible?

hm, not only can you not do that in illustrator, but i don't know if it would help at all, see, because while you are getting slowdown from all the masks now, i think you would still have slowdown because AE isn't getting slowed down by how many mask instances there are, rather it's slowing down due to the number of mask points.
for example, if you had 50 masks with 50 maks points each, that's a total of 2,500 points.. in one mask just imagine AE trying to calculate it whew!
yea Trapcode's team (now owned by Red Giant?) developed quite a few masterpieces including 3d stroke and particular. If we were comparing Basketball teams, then trapcode would almost be like the Lakers in terms of plug-in developers, so it should be no surprise that their stuff works better and does more hah. I

Hi again.
I see, Trapcode is like Barcelona FC (soccer) ;-)
Interesting, I didn't know that about the nodes instead the actual number of mask.
Anyway, I am giving up. To render 15 frames i took 13 minutes. And that's only a fourth part of the whole mask (yeap, I split the mask four times...)
I just can't believe that nobody tried to make this type of "pencil look" effect before. I uploaded an example of a simple drawing, with only 40 masks-vectors. It took a 15 minutes render. Sadly for me, the rest of the drawings are 10 times more complex.

Hi,
Thanks man. It doesn't look bad. But this is a simple drawing, and it took too much render. So I dropped using this filter. I tried the paintbrush effect but it lacks of an parameter to set a frequency. It just continue animate the brushes. And what I'm looking for is to get a 6 fps frequency...
Anyway I think the better solution (so far researching and trying was the only thing done the past 10 days..!) is just draw a second frame, loop and change de frame rate.
