Filename truncation script
by Andrew Honacker on Jun 26, 2009 at 6:24:00 pm

Hey guys. Many years ago I remember a script that would read the full filename of an imported file from disk and place it into the comment column in AE so you could actually see the name beyond the 31 character limit.
This has been an ongoing pain for us for many years with AE whereas the other comp packages we're starting to move over into (Nuke, Fusion) have no such limitation. And they show image sequences as one item in their browsers rather than 300 individual files.
Why AE still remains so archaic is beyond me.

But I digress. Can anyone point me to this script before my compers go mad looking at 20 files in their AE projects that are all named the same since the descriptors come after 31 characters.

Thank you!
-andrew

Glad to help, Andrew, but it's actually the folks at Redefinery that are awesome.
