importing AE comps into Final Cut....confusion

	importing AE comps into Final Cut....confusion by dean chapman on Jun 19, 2009 at 5:21:05 am Wondering how i should output my comp from AE, if i want to import it into final cut (version 5). my sequence settings for final cut are based on footage shot on a DVX-100 (23.98 fps) with an anamorphic lens adapter (so i guess it's squeezed while shooting, then final cut unsqueezes it when you bring it in).......when i'm in AE, im not sure how to deal with the whole square pixel deal or if i export it as an animation or whatever......kinda confused on the whole process. also, maybe kinda a bozo question, but i was wondering if it's any better to export the final cut footage and import that into AE, and work from there? 	Re: importing AE comps into Final Cut....confusion by Dave LaRonde on Jun 19, 2009 at 2:47:17 pm Use AE's DV Widescreen comp preset. The frame rate should be 23.976 fps. It should NOT be 23.98 -- that's just a cruel nickname for the actual frame rate, 23.976. Depending on what you'll do with the file(s) rendered from AE, you should either render in the DV codec (lossy, but okay if left as is in AE)... or the Animation codec set to best quality (lossless, but stands up to multiple FCP effects applied... and it WILL require rendering). Get to know the Pixel Aspect Ratio Compensation toggle switch, located at the bottom of the comp window. Don't worry if text & such looks jagged: everything renders nice 'n smooth. Oh... in FCP, you may have to check the footage's Anamorphic check box in the Browser to get it to look right. Nope. The DV codec treats graphics and text the way a baby treats a diaper. If you were to export your FCP timeline with its nice, crisp text as a self contained movie, you would discover it didn't look quite as nice once you reimported it back into FCP. DV is a lossy codec: it loses picture information. There's not a whole lot you can do about it except use something better, which means you pay more for your camera, more for your storage (because you'll need more of it, more for an AJA or Blackmagic card... you get the idea.
