why does my audio sound stretched?

Hey guys, something's been bugging me that should be simple to fix. I exported an mp3 from garageband of a female speaking. I play it on my computer and it sounds fine, just as the female sounds in real life. But when I bring it into AE, the audio sounds stretched, giving my speaker an unwanted, manly tone. My comp is set to 25 fps and so is my RAM preview. She sounds normal when I pump up the RAM preview fps to 27, but I'd like for it to remain at 25 fps as that is the frame rate that I have my comp set to and working on.
Would really be glad to figure out what's wrong. I imagine it should be something really simple.

Just looking at the numbers, it sounds like you have 48kHz audio (DVD data rate) being played back at 44.1kHz (CD data rate). I'd load it into Quicktime, make sure it plays right in there, and then export it to a .aif file for use in After Effects.

thanks a lot for the fast response, I'm really pushed for time so your answer is a godsend. Yup, you're right, my sound was set to 48khz and not 44khz in the project settings. wow, I never would have figured that out on my own. Was close to time=remapping the audio. Sadly, I have never even opened up the project settings until you told me about it :|
It's also a comforting fact when you're a third year graphic design student too....lol anyways, thanks! Stoked that this little problem is out of the way. Now what next.......

[Eugene Hooper]"...I exported an mp3 from garageband..."
Something else to know: don't use mp3's in AE. They are VERY problematic when rendering audio along with video. Use mp3's as reference only, or convert them to aiff's or wav's prior to import into AE.
