Flickering in 3D?
by Alex Kuzelicki on May 21, 2009 at 2:44:39 pm

Hi there,

I've been making some 3D rooms in AE, with live-action actors inside. I notice that in one of the rooms, especially, the floor flickers like crazy whenever there is a camera move.

The floor artwork is 'tiles' so I figure that maybe at an angle the linework of the tiles is smaller than a pixel in width. That's a guess though. I did try some different versions of artwork for the floor but they're all flickering to varying degrees - even when the artwork I bring has much thicker lines.

Any ideas how to solve the problem?

And, you know... what if you do want tiles on a floor in 3D? How would you do that then?

Advice would be great.

Thanks kindly,

ALEX

I'm not sure what's happening in your case but if 3D layers are too close together (ie on the same plane) AE's 3D render engine doesn't accurately render them. Its possible that if you move the floor a few pixels lower it may resolve the issue.

Also, try rendering out a quick little segment of it to see if it turns up in the render. Sometimes AE's RAM preview has weird flickeries that aren't in the final render.

Hey thanks guys.

Sorry it took awhile to respond to your suggestions. Will definitely try out both solutions.

Very much appreciated.

Cheers,

ALEX
