Renders gone sour - Technique

Hello, does anyone know the trick if a render goes sour, without having to delete it in the render query and start it again ? I had heard of a trick for this a while back and forgot!

Don't render a movie. Render an image sequence instead. Then you can pick up the render at the pont where it goes south on you.
