AE CS4 Initializing UI error

Config: MacOSX 10.5.4
MBP 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM

Hello guys,

"It is happening again"... Laura Palmer would say....

Well, I just got my hands on AE CS4 and when I launch it gets stuck at "Initializing User Interface" bs.

I turned around and deleted the preference files in the current user, it still didn't help. I created a brand new user, actually, and still didn't help. I am stuck at this point.

I know this is a new product and I may need to have patience...

Cheers,
MM

Okay, did you follow Adobe's installations instructions, or did you try to install in intuitively?

Are there "special instructions"? I did a regular install, let the installer do its job. Everything else is working fine (PS, InDesign, AI etc) except for the AE.

I don't have the new software, so I don't know if there are any installation "gotchas"......

...but then again, since you haven't looked at the instructions, you don't know if there are any, either.

Thanks a lot for your input, Dave. I actually found the workaround. BTW, there aren't special instructions at all. It's very straight forward and the fact that i install it on an off-the-shelf Macbook Pro it makes it very simple. As I said, it's a brand new product and there is not a big KB yet. I hope my workaround post helps.

MM

I've got the answer
by Manuel Minut on Oct 31, 2008 at 6:34:07 pm

I've got the answer. I am not sure if this is a pattern, but I got it working.

1. Connect an external monitor (I have a lousy Vizio 20")
2. Delete the preference files under /username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects
- You can delete the whole After Effects folder here
3. Launch AE CS4. It'll launch fine.
4. Close AE
5. Disconnect the external monitor
6. Re-launch AE.

That's what I did and it worked for me. I don't know what happened, I am not sure if it was something with my configuration (although I don't think so)... The product is very new, so there isn't much tech support on it yet.

Good luck!
