digital cinema workflow reference monitor
by Lena Meyer on Oct 14, 2008 at 4:09:33 pm

Hey all,

we use the digital cinema workflow to create 2K title sequences for theatres.
We plan to ad a 2K reference monitor into our workflow.
( With Blackmagic HD Extreme2 to HD Link Pro to the Monitor )
The problem is that the video-out path from After Effects for preview on reference monitors is not color-managed.

1. Has anybody experiences with 2K reference monitoring in After Effects?
2. Is there a way to see a correct image on a referrence monitor in adjusting the monitor with LUTs?
3. Where can I find the needed LUTs?
4. Which monitor do You recommend?
5. Do You recommend a different way (like connecting a monitor directly on the computer with DVI)?

I use After Effects CS3, Mac OSX 10.5.5, 2x2,8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xenon, 6GB RAM, Blackmagic Decklink HDExtreme2, grafic card ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT

load Luts or use color calibrated monitor profiles, if using profiles, ignore luts inside color correction software, if using luts, use the lut preset you have assigned the monitor. remember to keep gamma, linear, and color management workflow constant and you'll keep pipeline perfect.

best info ever here.

Hi,

Your Info gave me some new ideas about my workflow. I tried to apply the Kodak 2383 Preview Profile ( LOG to LIN) with an effect instead of applying it to the entire working space inside After Effects, if I renderout my files I just need to deactivate the effect to get log dpx again. This seems to work out quite well.
I want to try the second workflow too, no color management inside After Effects and loading the LUT directly in the blackmagic decklink card. The problem is that I don't have the LUT. I have the Adobe Kodak 2383 Theater Previw as icc and what I need is a .3dl or .itx.
Can You recommend a converting tool?

Thanks a lot,
Lena
