Realizing that After Effects in any incarnation is a 2D application, I may be attempting the impossible (or at least tedious) task of creating a comp with a rotating element with a 3D angle.
The problem being, in using either the rotation controls in the effect (Shatter) or by applying a camera, I get a "Wobble" on the object, when all I really want is a view of the rotation at an angle.
If I stay in AE I can keep some flexablity in my overall project.

Put your 2D rotation in a precomp, then bring the precomp into your main comp. Once you turn this precomp into a 3D layer, you can do anything you want to it in 3D space, and it won't affect the 2D rotation at all.
