Bezier Handles for 3D Layers
by Dustin Brown on Sep 8, 2008 at 6:32:48 pm

I'm working with 3D layers in AFX 7 and I'm running in to this problem where I can't get bezier handles on my f-curves for the Orientation and Position properties. I think it's because those two properties aren't broken down into independent channels, X-Y-Z, but are smooshed into one channel. So adjusting the bezier curve for the X channel would consequently effect the Y and Z channels, which is obviously not good in most cases. So I guess the question for the big cash and prizes is: is there a way to break those properties into independent channels so I can get the level of control I'm after?

Thanks,
Dustin

Orientation is indeed one parameter for 3 axis, as well as position is...
Still, you can use individuals XYZ rotation parameters, instead orientation, but it doesn't solve the position issue.

In AE, you can manage independently speed and path. In fact, this is what causes you troubles.
As speed and position are independent, the only way to relate one parameter to the other, is by defining speed as the kinetic movement of a trip onto the path (the positions).
Let's take cars and roads : you can build whatever road you want, drive as fast as you wish, do whatever you could dream of with a car : you only have one speed parameter : the car speedometer.

So what you're looking for, controlling independent speed params to achieve perfect movement, will not be found in the position f-curves, but in the spatial path...

Hope it helped...

That does help, David, thanks. That's different than how I'm used to working with 3D f-curves, but it's not the end of the world.
