masking an image with a shape layer
by Ross Kidd on Sep 4, 2008 at 11:29:49 am

Hi,

I have a shape layer and it moves around a bit with ripple. What I want to do is

(i) duplicate the layer

(ii) make this layer mask an image so the image moves with the top level bubble.

I suppose at worst I could make the clipping mask in illustrator and them add the effect in AE but wondered if this was possible

If all you want to do is allow the shape layer to reveal the part of the image it is over, then just place your image layer below your shape layer and change the image layer track matte to alpha of the shape layer. If you want the image to remain in the same place and move with the layer, then pickwip the image layer's position to the shape's position.

Hope this helps
