Lighting effects

Hi,

I just watched this video: http://vimeo.com/1399514?pg=embed&sec=1399514
It's a cool video. What I really liked the look of the film type red lighting effects that you get when extraneous light enters the camera. This was done with a DV and adapter, so I know it's not real. I'd like to get this effect on some music videos that I want to do. How is this effect achieved?
