Track Matte - White to Transparent
by Adam Lewen on Aug 25, 2008 at 10:37:59 am

Hi there
I just achieved something i wanted, but didn't save...
Now I am having trouble redoing it.
Thing is, it took me a few sec to do it in the first place...

To simplify things
Lets say I have 3 layers

TOP- White squares
MID- Adjustment Layer that effects the BOT
BOT- BG LAYER

All I want to get is to convert the TOP (those white squares) to transparent (that I will see NOTHING, not even the BG Layer, behind).

I believe I did so with a Track Matte.

Does anyone have an idea on what am I doing wrong here?
I do not want to Key out the White color...

Thanks for any input

Adam

So the only thing you want to see is the layer with the white squares? OR do you just want to see the background layer on the places where white squares are?

Either way, maybe it helps to say that when you press the toggle Switches / Modes button (in the middle, below the timeline) You get the Mode / Trackmatte dropdownboxes. You might want to try these. Try to set the background's trackmatte to the Top layer.

Good luck.

Jerry

What I want to see eventually is the BG layer with "holes" of transparency where the white squares were. (the transparent checkered 'nothing' behind...)

Thanks for reading

Ok, then place the TOP layer above the BG layer, press the toggle switches button and in the dropdown box select Alpha Inverted matte [TOP layer] This will give you the desired look.

Good Luck!

Thanks! Did a precomp to all BUT the Top layer and inverted based on the top layer's boxes...

Worked.
