In attempting to port AE 7 Pro to new (replacement) system, the installation fails with a Microsoft C++ runtime error, right after selecting English as the language.
Computer is new Dell Precision, running WinXP SP2.

adobe support should still offer free support for installing older software... the 15-20 minutes on the phone may save you hours of searching the web and troubleshooting yourself...
my best guess would be that a piece of software (like antivirus software) is interfering or there is some other software conflict.
i had problems with the installer for cs3 production premium (mac version)... it would just stall after the first install disk. the only solution was copying all the install disks (which took hours) to the hard drive and installing from the hard disk. i'm not sure if your problem may be similar.

Thanks for trying on this one.
I've been through the list of steps from the knowledge base (limiting bootup services, attempting the installation from an administrator account), and just finished trying the uninstall of Audition 3, which someone on the Adobe forum suggested, since it has a newer installation program that might have conflicted.
No change. Same runtime error at the beginning of AE installation.
Looks like it's time for a $40 phone call... free support is no longer available.
