AE Selective Depth of Field - Far objects sharp close blurry
by Chris Corban on Aug 21, 2008 at 12:02:10 am

Hi - I'm in CS3 trying to do camera depth of field for objects that come close to the camera only and keep all objects regardless of how far they are from the camera to remain sharp. I know there's probably an expression out there that can do this but I could only find ones that connected camera focus to a null or object. Is there a way to do this without expressions? I've tried to adjust aperture and blur level but turning one up and the other down and vice versa only seems to achieve the exact same effect in relation using different settings. My camera is a fly thru of object positioned in z space. Any help is much appreciated.

Inside your camera options you should be able to turn depth of field off. That should keep everything in your composition sharp. I would recommend trying a "fake" depth of field after that using the gaussian blur effect for the layers you want blurred. It will give you a little bit more control. I hope this helps.

Good Luck :)
