Continuous beeping when rendering

Using a Mac Pro with 8 cores and 5Gb ram. I have added CC Light Burst 2.5 to a clip and when I perform a ram preview or render the composition in the render queue, the Mac Pro starts bleeping (it could be the hard-drive)every 2 seconds. After Effects struggles to render and I have to force quit the application.
If I render the sequence with the effect turned off it renders without problem.
The System Profiler doesn't offer any clues.
I have heard a similar noise when transfering video from a video camera into Final Cut Pro although the process completed succesfully.

This is the absolute FIRST TIME I've ever heard of anything like that.
Here's are my guesses, and they're just guesses:
• your disk drive is getting too full
• your disk drive is getting ready to expire.... as in crash
Of the two, I think the full disk is far more likely.
So why would an effect cause the sound? Enabling the effect may be just enough to make AE do a Disk Cache, meaning that it's using a dangerously-full disk.
Why would your disk beep in the first place? Here's another guess: there's some gizmo on it to signal that you're just about to fill it up, not unlike the way a camera beeps when the battery is low or the tape is about to run out.

Hi Dave. I had similar thoughts but the drive set to cache (and render too had over 36Gb free. I also changed the drive cache to another drive with over 300Gb spare. And renedering without the effect causes no problem.
I thought that it might be that the Mac was attempting to write to the drives faster than their own cache would allow. Both drives are internal SATA drives and all run at 7200 spin speed.
You are right about it being unheard of. I have spent hours on web searches trying to find someone else with the problem with no luck.
