spiral 3d

I want to have Particular spiral its emitter up from the bottom of the frame to the top. I imported a spiral from illustrator and pasted into a 3d solid's position, then rotated that solid by parenting it to a null, and rotating the null's X axis to 270. Then I pick-whipped the emitter's xy position to the solid's xy position, and the emitter's z position to the solid's z position, but of course that's always zero.

This is easy for somebody, I know. I keep wondering about the Layer Space Transformation as a solution (in an expression), but I'm too ignorant.

Thanks for your thought in advance!
