Working with Zaxwerks ProAnimator
by Brian Lynn on Aug 4, 2008 at 8:39:00 pm

Using Zaxwerks to make a 3d clock... I can make the clock, that's not a problem.

The problem comes when I try to animate the hands to spin like a real clock. It doesn't have to be a scaled time frame, though 12 hours will = 1 minute.

ProAnimator has got to be about the most frustrating program I've used in a long time. It does great stuff, but its not very intuitive as to how to actually do things.

I have all my objects in, and I am trying to spin just the small hand of the clock around a center point for now. So I figured out to leave the main clock pieces in place as a reference, make them invisible, and then when I "Rotate Around Common" it spins correctly. Without another object to relate to as "common" the small hand spins on its center axis. Fixed that one...

So, now that I can spin the hands properly, I need to add "keyframes" at the start and end of my 1 minute...

This is where I get extemely frustrated.

Working with the timeline and animation controls is making me want to tear my hair out!

I have a timeline, but clue how to add ANYTHING to it really. If I double click I guess I get a "Transition" which is very frustration because that is not the controls I need. But once I have a transition in place its almost impossible to get rid of it.

If I can get rid of it, I sometimes get a different colored box that allows me to manipulate the object itself...

Now, if anyone can tell me:
#1 how to get rid of a transition. it keeps telling me "please select more than just a transition before deleting" which is confusing, what else am I supposed to select? I've got Transitions all over the place, I want them ALL GONE

#2 how to get the box that allows me to manipulate the objects position, rotation, etc. consitently

#3 how to set actual KEYFRAMES so I can tell my big hand I want it to spin so many degrees before 1 minutes up, and same with my little hand...

Thanks to anyone who can help me!!

I am using AE CS3 and the latest download of the Zaxwerks software.

I would delete this if I could... I've figured out 99% of my own issues at this point. I guess I just need a LOT more time with this plugin =)
