applying "audio waveform" effect to group of paths from AI
by brian hockenstein on Aug 2, 2008 at 1:56:27 am

ok, so i would like to apply the audio waveform effect to a group of paths I have created/copied in from adobe illustrator...the problem is that the effect seems to only want to work on one letter at a time, which is making it next to impossible to apply to a large group of words..

does someone have a solution to this? either to apply the effect to all the paths present in the comp, or alternatively to somehow group the paths into one super-mega-path?!

I have searched for an answer to this and could not come up with anything...

thanks in advance..

This is a small hassle to setup, but it works, and you can make an Animation Preset for quick results in the future.

To the layer with all the masks, I tested 6 masks, add the effect: Audio Waveform, set it to mask 1. Select the effect in the Effects Palette, and Ctrl D duplicates the effect (another instance of Audio Waveform). Set the mask to Mask 2 for this one, and be sure to check the Composite On Original box. Now dup the effect again as many times as you have masks, and manually set the masks to 3, 4, 5, etc (and they'll all have Composite on Original checked).

You can select all the instances of Audio waveform and Animation>Save Animation Preset, name it... then in the future you can apply that to a layer with that many masks or less and you'll have what you want.

thanks for the reply!

yeah, i figured out that method...the problem is, if I have say, ten words/lines, with, say, ten letters each, plus two masks for letters like "o" or "p", because of the inside circles, then this quickly adds up to, well, a ton of instances of the effect...

any other suggestions that might work with only one instance?
