stationary layer mask with moving image?
by patirck collins on Aug 1, 2008 at 7:35:10 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a somewhat large image that I only want 1/4 of revealed... I
then want to animate the image so that as it moves, the area that is
revealing the 1/4 stays in the same spot, butt the image moves
around-- basically like a cut out.

I thought I could accomplish this by using a layer mask, however when
I move the image, the mask moves with it, and I tried locking the
mask, but it still seems to move with the image. Can anyone please
guide me on how to do this?

thanks!

-patrick

Easy: make a solid, place it ABOVE the layer in question, and put the stationary mask on the solid. Then have the layer in question use it as a track matte. Just look up Track Matte in AE help, and you find all you need to know about 'em.

it could be as simple as a precomping the image and it's movement. then place that in the 'main' comp and create your mask for the 1/4 part that stays stationary.
