avi not supported

Hi,
I finished a project and I wanted to collect the files so it's all clean and in one folder. (File > Collect Files)
But when collecting a certain avi, it always gives me 10 popup boxes one after another saying there was an error and that the avi is not supported.
And then in the project files, it suddenly displays as missing.
I double click it and browse to the file, but then it says the avi is not supported and won't import it!
But I just used that avi for the entire project and everything!
Could anyone shed some light on this confusing problem?

In the Macintosh and Quicktime world, there is a kind of movie called a Reference Movie. It contains no content: instead, it's little more than a set of pointers to a media file (or files) stored elsewhere. If the file path for such a movie is disturbed, the pointers can no longer point to media, creating error messages when you try to play it or use it.
Does a similar kind of file exist in the Windows and AVI world?

I don't know of any such feature on Windows... But for the OP it sounds like maybe the file got corrupted somehow in the copy? Try to manually replace the "collected" file with the original source. If that still doesn't work, maybe try to re-export that AVI from its source (or reencode it in another program) and do a file replacement within after effects... Not a solution but a possible workaround.
