automated backups (help!)

I accidentally over wrote an AE project file.
I would like to go to an earlier version. Are there any automated backups AE generates that I can go back to?

This is from the AE8 Help PDF document, page 24:

To automatically save copies of projects at regular intervals, choose Edit > Preferences > Auto-Save (Windows) or After Effects > Preferences > Auto-Save (Mac OS), and select Automatically Save Projects.

So -- unless you enabled this feature BEFORE you screwed up, or unless you're a regular user of AE's Increment and Save feature, you're hosed.
