Work Area On Timeline

I haven't been able to find the answer to this ANYWHERE or see anybody do this in tutorial videos.
But once you have trimmed your comp to your work area in AE CS3, how do you then untrim from the work area so you can see your entire timeline encompassing the full length of the video footage. This is killing me!
I can move forward past the trimmed work area, but I cannot get back to the very beginning of my footage for the life of me.

Keep in mind that I NEVER trim any comps to the Work Area. If you're careful about setting the beginning and the end of the work area, I just don't see the need for it. But I speculate that it would work like this:
When you trim the comp to the work area, you establish a comp with a new zero time, whose duration is the old work area. All layers are moved by the appropriate amount to reflect the new zero time. So some layers' in and out points may occur BEFORE the new zero time.
To get to them, just change the comp's duration and move all your layers the appropriate amount. Or just forget about using the command. Or duplicate the comp in question before you invoke the command.

You could just expand your composition settings to include more time. then drag layer to the right, and pull out its left side more. shift + drag will snap it like a magnet.
