Squigly vertices misbehaving
by ed sully on Jul 18, 2008 at 6:33:27 am

The rototool has the feature where when your setting points, if you drag a new point it will get this handlebars on either side that allow you to create a squigly mask, im not sure what its called, but ill just refer to it as the squigly vertex. So when i get a mask of squigly vertices set, i notice that some vertice's handlebars let me control each one separately, but others make both handlebars move together whenever one bar is moved. Is there any way to make those vertices work separately like the others?

Shift + click should do it

That didnt do anything. Its even on the first mask, where a few points let me move the handles independently and most other dont. Is there any thing i can do to make it work? Im running out of time!

Try Ctrl + Alt when dragging the vertices. This will break the vertice connection. I believe if you shift drag you constrain the movement in 0-90 + degree increments.

Well, if the Shift-drag trick didn't work, why don you try some OTHER key combinations with dragging, huh?

Hi Ed,
I'm new to AE so I don't know all the shortcuts yet (and I'm sure the other suggestions are the defaults) but if you click & hold on the pen tool it'll open up and give you a couple options like add vertex, remove vertex and the last one is the convert vertex tool.. Looks like an upside down V.. Select that, then select the handle of one of the vertex points who's handles are tied together - click on one of the handles and drag it to convert the handles. Clicking again will change the handles again...
